My Story
About me
I am somewhat a reluctant runner! I got into running in 2025 when my daughter decided she wanted to do the Great North Run and needed someone to train with. I had never ran since my school cross country days so Couch to 5k was a shock to the system!
I eventually got comfortable doing 5k and, on holiday, managed to increase that to 7.5k then 10k in the same week. My daughter then got a place in the 2026 Great North Run which meant training ramped up.
I then also got a place so that was that, I had to become a runner! Training started well, focussing on drills and condtioning as well as keeping the endurance up for the longest distance I'll have ever ran.
Fast forward to April 2026 and my training came to an abrupt halt when a friend of mine needed a kidney donation. The months of testing showed I was a match so on 28th April, I hung up my trainers and donated my kidney to her. Recovery from major surgery was tough and I was advised to not run for 6 weeks. 6 weeks of not running, not training, not working out has been a challenge in itself but now I'm back to the original challenge in hand, that 13.1 miles!
I'm raising money for Remap: https://remap.org.uk/
REMAP is the UK's only charity providing innovative, custom made and personalised equipment for disabled people. Our community of volunteer engineers design and create equipment when no commercial alternative exists - at no cost to the individuals we help.
Every bespoke item REMAP creates is free for the person who needs it, but each project requires materials, skills and time. With each solution costing around £127, we rely on donations to continue supporting disabled people to achieve greater independence and a better quality of life.
Thank you for your donation, every penny truly does make the difference to these wonderful people!
