My Story

We sadly lost our Dad in January this year to Oesophageal Cancer, after a sudden and short illness in hospital. Some of my fondest childhood memories of Dad are from our days involved in our local athletics club, me the athlete, Dad a coach, one time Chairman, and competition official, and along with Mum, Sisters and Grandparents, a dedicated supporter!

So it seems fitting to lace up my running shoes once again to raise money in his memory.

Guts UK is the national charity for the digestive system, and their mission is to improve the lives of the millions of people affected by digestive conditions, including carrying out and funding research into cancers such as Oesophageal Cancer.

It's near 30 years since I ran any kind of distance...eek!....so this won't be easy! But in what would have been just a couple of months before Dad's 70th birthday, I'll be running the Great North Run in his memory and to raise money to help fund awareness raising and important research which can hopefully help save the lives of others.

About us

60,000 determined and dedicated runners make the AJ Bell Great North Run the World’s biggest and best half marathon – famous for its warm North East welcome, unbeatable atmosphere and the millions raised for good causes.

The AJ Bell Great North Run is an opportunity for us all to come together and support one another. Its magic can be hard to understand – until you have experienced it yourself. You’re guaranteed a running event like no other - and a finish line feeling you’ll never forget.

It's not all about the adults, the AJ Bell Junior & Mini Great North Run gives the kids a chance to experience that finish line feeling, earn a special medal & raise money for good causes.
