My Story

I'm running the Great North Run for Macmillan in 2026, in memory of my late mother-in-law, Sally Read.

Sally sadly left us 10 years ago this September, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. During that battle, Sally and her husband Graeme were supported by local Macmillan nurses, and the value of this support cannot be understated.

Not only did they support Sally directly as a cancer patient, but also Graeme who had retired to be her full-time carer. As a family we are forever grateful for the care and compassion shown by Macmillan, knowing it made a difference to their quality of life during those difficult times.

I ran my first half marathon in 2017 for Macmillan in Sally's memory, a year after her passing, and as we approach a decade from losing a much loved wife and mother I wanted to continue to honour her legacy by raising funds for a service that meant so much to us all.
