My Story
I’m running the Great North Run this year – and if you know me, you’ll know I am definitely not a runner!
Together with Jake, I’m doing this in memory of my mam, who sadly died of cancer in June last year. In the final weeks of her life, she was cared for at Butterwick Hospice. The care she received there was nothing short of incredible. The staff treated her with such dignity, compassion and kindness, and they supported our whole family through the hardest time of our lives.
Taking on 13.1 miles feels completely out of my comfort zone, but it’s nothing compared to what she went through with such strength. Butterwick Hospice relies heavily on fundraising to continue their work, and I want to do my part to give something back. Every mile will be for my mam and for the incredible team who made her final weeks as comfortable and peaceful as possible.
I’m running to say thank you, to honour my mam, and to help Butterwick Hospice continue providing their amazing care to other families who need it.
Any donation, no matter how small, would mean so much. 💙
