BRIGHT RED

Great North Run for Blood Cancer

My Story

Leukemia.

In 2023, while co-founding a startup, I was unexpectedly diagnosed with an acute form of leukaemia.

What followed was a three-week stay at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, then a further three weeks in York, and eight more months of treatment.

It sucked. But… I’m better now. By the time I take on this run, I’ll have had my final bone marrow biopsy (those who know, know) and be ready to move forward.

So when I started running and saw that Bright Red—an incredible blood cancer charity from the North East—had places in the Great North Run, I had to get involved. I first encountered Bright Red while I was in hospital, when some colleagues of mine raised funds for them.

That’s why I’m here: getting ready to run (or at least trying!) for this wonderful organisation.
