My Story
Jed’s Great North Run: From Service to Construction
This September, I will be taking on the Great North Run to raise money for Military vs Cancer and Building Heroes - two charities working to support the Armed Forces community when it matters most.
This challenge means a great deal to me personally.
I am a graduate of Building Heroes, having completed the Multi-Skills Construction programme at Ibstock. Like many people leaving the Armed Forces, I knew I had skills, discipline and a strong work ethic, but I also needed the right opportunity, guidance and support to help me take the next step into civilian employment.
Building Heroes gave me that start.
Through the academy, I gained practical construction skills, built confidence, and was introduced to an industry where the values I had developed through service could be recognised and put to good use. That experience helped open the door to a new career, and I am now proud to be working with Davidsons Homes, one of Building Heroes’ valued sponsors and supporters.
I know first-hand the difference that practical training, employer engagement and genuine support can make. Building Heroes does not just deliver a course; it helps people see what is possible after service and gives them the confidence to move forward.
That is why I am running.
By supporting my Great North Run challenge, you will be helping Military vs Cancer support serving personnel, veterans and military families affected by cancer. You will also be helping Building Heroes continue to provide training, qualifications, employability support and career pathways for Service Leavers, Veterans, Reservists and military family members.
Every donation will help make a difference. Whether you can give a little or a lot, your support will help power every mile and support two charities that are changing lives across the Armed Forces community.
Thank you for supporting me.
